Submitted on behalf of Linda Petrosino, Interim Provost/VPEA

Previous announcements have indicated a re-organization within the Provost and Educational Affairs area.  An additional change is the position elimination of   Associate Provost for Faculty and Student Advancement effective May 31, 2015.  The responsibilities associated with that position have been redistributed across several areas within the Provost Office and Educational Affairs.   For information regarding the redistribution of responsibilities please call Karen Emnett in the Provost Office.

As a result of the continuation of the reorganization within educational affairs, Dr. Carol Henderson will be leaving Ithaca College at the end of May.  Having served as a dean and as a vice president for academic affairs at other institutions, Dr. Henderson moved to Ithaca in 2008 to join the Ecovillage and joined IC as an academic administrator in that same year. During Carol’s tenure with Ithaca College she has served as the accreditation liaison officer with Middle States and led the 2013 Periodic Review Process that resulted in renewal of IC’s regional accreditation and a commendation from MSCHE.  She was instrumental in the establishment of the Center for Faculty Excellence, the Center for Academic Advancement, and chaired the 2011 national NCUR conference on undergraduate research held at Ithaca College.  Additionally, Carol has served on many key committees including APC, the Academic Assessment Committee, the Retention Committee, the Faculty Development Committee, and the Shared Governance Task Force.

In recognition of Dr. Carol Henderson’s contributions to the institution, a farewell reception will be held on May 14, 2015, 3:30-5:00 pm in Clark Lounge.  Please plan to join us as we celebrate Carol’s many contributions and accomplishments at Ithaca College.  For any details regarding the reception or how to recognize Carol, please contact Wade Pickren or Laurie Wasik in the Center for Faculty Excellence.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Laurie Wasik at wasik@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3734.  We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.

I, and others, I'm sure, am so sorry to lose Carol. She has been such a hard
worker and team player, mostly behind the scenes and out of sight of faculty and
staff. But her extraordinary leadership and her always-positive attitude about
getting things done is refreshing to anyone who works with her. She is such a
thoughtful person that to know she will not be there is like realizing that
someone has removed a foundation stone from the house---yeah it won't
collapse, but it sure won't be as stable as it used to be. We'll miss you, Carol.
Best of luck in your next life iteration!

I got to know and appreciate Carol's dedication to the
institution when I served on the Share Governance Task
force with her. When I read the list her accomplishments
and all that she has done for Ithaca College, it is
shocking and sad to see that she has been "restructured"
out of her job. It is a big loss for the college.

I am sad to hear of Carol's leaving the Ithaca College
community. She has been dedicated to creating an
environment of compassion and integrity. Her leadership
skill and style will be missed greatly!
