Please join me on Thursday, May 7, 2015 for the final Faculty Colloquium for the spring semester.

Gary Sforzo, Ph.D., is a Professor in the Department of Exercise & Sport Sciences.  He is Coordinator of the Clinical Exercise Science degree program and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses related to Exercise Physiology, clinical aspects of exercise physiology, and strength and conditioning.  Dr. Sforzo trains students so they may assist others with improving health and physical performance whether a top athlete or an aging person with limited function.  He supervises student interns preparing for careers in cardiac rehabilitation, wellness, medical fitness, corporate health and fitness, and strength and conditioning.

Dr. Sforzo’s recent research and writing focus on worksite wellness, health and wellness coaching, and the scholarship of teaching.  More generally, his scholarship is devoted to improving quality of an exercise session and exercise programming.  His publications include topics related to efficient exercise, exercise in older adults, cognitive function, muscle soreness, weight lifting, and speed performance.

Dr. Sforzo will be presenting “Two Outta Three Ain’t Bad? Teaching, Scholarship, Service.” His objectives are to identify projects that combine the three primary criteria for faculty advancement while also discussing challenges evolving in higher education. Dr. Sforzo will also be discussing his current project, supported by the Center for Faculty Excellence which involves curriculum development, new teaching techniques, and technology utilization.

The IC Faculty Colloquium, launched in 2012, is a monthly event designed to provide a forum for faculty to share with one another their scholarly and creative work.  This is a chance for people across department and school lines to learn more about the exciting pursuits of their colleagues and to engage with one another as members of a common learning community.

The Colloquium will take place from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in the Clark Lounge of the Campus Center.  The first half hour will be a social time during which we enjoy wine, appetizers, and excellent conversation.  The presentation and Q&A will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

I look forward to seeing you there.
