We regret to announce that former member of the Ithaca College Board of Trustees Larry Smith ’69 passed away on April 28 after a hard-fought battle with aplastic anemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. A devoted alumnus of IC’s School of Business, he served on the board from 2006 through 2013 and his presence within our college community will be sorely missed. Larry had a distinguished business career and last served as executive vice president and co-chief financial officer of Comcast Corporation, overseeing the company’s finance and administrative functions as it became one of the leading forces in the cable industry. He was widely recognized as one of the nation’s most skilled CFOs and brought a remarkable level of experience, expertise, and insight to his work as a trustee. Larry and his wife, Christine, were passionate philanthropists and community leaders dedicated to many important causes, including IC. The dean’s suite in the Dorothy D. and Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise was named in recognition of their extraordinary generosity, and we are honored that their legacy lives on at the college in such a significant way. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, and again from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at Central Schwenkfelder Church, 2111 Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, Pennsylvania. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. in the church, followed by interment in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Larry’s memory to the Philadelphia Freedom Valley YMCA or the Aplastic Anemia and MDS International Foundation. |
