The School of Humanities and Sciences is pleased to announce the inaugural year of the H&S Summer Scholars Program. The Program provides paid positions for H&S students to engage full-time in a research, scholarship, or creative inquiry project, in collaboration with a Faculty Mentor. Ten H&S student projects were selected from a competitive field of 25 project proposals; the Summer Scholars represent a wide variety of majors including Anthropology, Art, Economics, English, and Psychology. Two of the Scholars were awarded Emerson Humanities Collaboration Awards through the proposal review process. For a complete list of awardees, please see the H&S Summer Scholars web page. The Scholars will participate in two "Knowledge Noshes" over the summer, meeting over lunch to talk together about their projects, and reflect on the process of research/scholarship. In the fall, they will present their work in a Poster Symposium during family weekend. The program was made possible in part by Ithaca Annual Fund gifts and by the Emerson Foundation's support for the Humanities Collaboration Award. The Summer Scholars join a thriving community of H&S summer student researchers in technology and the sciences, who have for many years been actively engaged with faculty in collaborative scientific research projects in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, computer science, and physics, supported in part by Ford Foundation funds, and a variety of other external and internal grant programs. |
