You are invited to an evening of wit and wonderment as Theatre Arts performance majors in the Styles of Acting course present scenes from William Shakespeare, Noel Coward and Oscar Wilde.

On Wednesday May 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Clark Theatre of Dillingham Center, students will present four scenes from William Shakespeare re-imagined for the 21st century. You will see Romeo and Juliet played out against the backdrop of a presidential election, Taming of the Shrew as an encounter between former spouses, Twelfth Night at a Halloween office party and Julius Caesar as a showdown between two organized crime bosses.

In a somewhat more traditional fashion, we will also present a scene from Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit in which Ruth Condomine insists that the spiritualist medium Madame Arcati take steps to send the spirit of her husband's deceased first wife back to the great beyond. We will also present two scenes from Oscar Wilde's consummate comedy of manners The Importance of Being Earnest. You will see the famous cigarette case scene as well as the interview between Jack Worthing and Lady Bracknell, the latter of whom will be played by--well, you will just have to see for yourself.

Oscar Wilde wrote in The Importance of Being Earnest: "The truth is rarely pure and never simple." Never has this truism been truer than in our presentation of "Wilde about Coward and Shakespeare."

The presentation is free of charge and, due to the updated context, suitable for mature audiences.
