Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann (School of Music) commissioned to write a new orchestral work for Sao Paulo SymphonyContributed by Craig Cummings on 05/04/15 Prof. Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann has received a commission to write a new orchestral composition for the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop. The piece will be premiered at the opening concert of the Campos do Jordão International Music Festival, in Brazil, in July of 2016.The work will also be recorded and released through the OSESP Digital label. Indisputably the most important Brazilian orchestra and the leading professional orchestra in Latin America, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of American conductor Marin Alsop, has consolidated its reputation and profile internationally. Alsop has conducted the Orchestra in 118 concerts, playing to an audience of over 270,000 people, engaging both critics and the public with concerts at the orchestra’s iconic home, 11 Brazilian cities and internationally at such iconic venues as the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), the Philharmonie (Berlin), the Salle Pleyel (Paris), the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Festival Hall (London). http://osesp.art.br/home.aspx?Cultura=en-GB |
