Outcome of Union Election

Contributed by Molly Israel on 05/28/15

Submitted on behalf of President Rochon

Dear Colleagues,

The National Labor Relations Board has announced the preliminary results of the election for a union among part-time and adjunct faculty at Ithaca College. The participants in the election have voted in favor of representation by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

The election results are not considered final until the NLRB officially certifies them. Certification can take several weeks depending on whether any legal challenges are filed. Once the election is certified, the college will bargain in good faith with representatives from SEIU and our part-time faculty. We hope to reach with them a consensus that balances the requests of the faculty with the ongoing needs of the college and its students.

I would like to thank our part-time and adjunct faculty for their participation in the election process and I hope that all parties can reach agreement on a contract as amicably as possible.

At this time, we can’t speculate on what impact an adopted contract will have on the college’s current practices, but I am confident that together, we will continue to strengthen our commitment to providing a premier educational experience for our students.

Sincerely,

Thomas Rochon

President
