Information Technology Services (ITS) will be replacing McAfee VirusScan Enterprise with Microsoft's System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) as the standard anti-virus/malware application for College Windows computers. Macs will switch to SCEP as part of a separate, future effort.

There is an automated and “silent” (i.e. not noticeable to the user*) over-the-network process to remove McAfee components and install SCEP and related components. Since the various components are removed and added as separate steps of the process, the exact timing of the process will vary from computer to computer.

ITS will initiate the McAfee/SCEP change on Monday, 6/22. You will know that McAfee has been replaced with SCEP when you see the SCEP icon in the System Tray (see image upper right). The Start Menu will also show SCEP as a newly installed program. This could take 3-5 days.

*Though this change is not expected to be noticeable for most people, you may encounter any of the following:

  • An error related to McAfee or SCEP (reboot your computer)
  • Unexplained slowness (this should be temporary)
  • A prompt to manually update SCEP. If so...
    • Right click the SCEP icon in the System Tray and choose Open
    • Click the Update tab
    • Click the Update button

If any problems or errors persist, contact the Helpdesk for assistance.
