Registration is now open for a July 20-22 R.A.D. women’s self-defense course for staff and faculty.  For more information about this program and to access the registration form, please visit www.ithaca.edu/sacl/safety/rad

The course is presented by certified instructors from the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, and will be a nine hour class conducted as a 6 to 9 p.m. session on each of the three class dates.  Participants must attend all three sessions. R.A.D. class is accessible and open to any experience level or physical ability level. They are created and taught in a fun, inclusive, and enjoyable manner.

R.A.D. is only one of a number of programs Ithaca College offers in its multilayered approach toward combatting sexual assault.

R.A.D. is a nationally developed program, which is recognized for substantially lowering participants' risk of being sexually assaulted. It trains participants on how to defend themselves against sexual assaults in all kinds of scenarios and against known and unknown perpetrators. The New York Times recently published an article about the success of similar training programs in preventing sexual assault incidents: "College Rape Prevention Program Proves a Rare Success."

R.A.D. programming is designed to benefit participants of any ability and experience level.  The course will include both classroom content and physical practice and is open to all staff and faculty who identify as female.  Please note that there is a $15 course cost for printing and materials, which can be waived for financial hardship upon request.

Payment can be made in advance or on the course start date.  The class will be limited to 10-15 participants, and a wait list will be maintained for future classes if registrations exceed the available spaces.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out at any time to any of the R.A.D. coordinators listed on the R.A.D. site.

Ithaca College launched a comprehensive Sexual Harassment and Assault Response & Education (SHARE) program in the fall of 2014. Through SHARE, the college offers diverse and widely recognized training, education, programming, and other resources on this topic. The IC community can access SHARE information at https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/share/

More information about the R.A.D program and why this session is only open to participants that identify as female can be found here: Sexual Assault Prevention and Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Program Updates.
