Apple has determined that a small percentage of MacBook Pro systems may exhibit distorted video, no video, or unexpected system restarts. Note that this information only applies to personally owned MacBook Prop laptops, as none of the affected models are currently part of the college's technology renewal program.

As an Apple Authorized Service Provider, the Information Technology Services fixIT shop will perform the $650 repair on eligible MacBook Pro systems, free of charge until February 27, 2016 or three years from its original date of sale, whichever provides longer coverage.

Affected products:

  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Early 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Early 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011)
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2012)
  • MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)

To determine if your MacBook Pro is eligible for the Apple's MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issues , bring your MacBook Pro and Ithaca College ID Card to the fixIT shop for a free Video System Test. This is a ten-minute test that can be performed while you wait.

It is recommended that owners of affected models immediately back up their data and take advantage of the free test at the fixIT shop even if their MacBook Pro is fully functional and exhibits no symptoms. Failure can occur at any time.

The fixIT shop is located in Friends Hall, Room 110. For more information please call (607) 274-3000 or email fixit@ithaca.edu.
