Ithaca College

We’re looking for faculty to teach in the Honors Program. Below is a list of the many ways by which to serve in this capacity; if you are interested please contact director Tom Pfaff, tpfaff@ithaca.edu. 

Part of the mission of the program is to facilitate critical thinking, intellectual curiosity, and lifelong learning. We look to offer a wide variety of courses, so we’re always looking for new ones, and for new innovative ways to support and stimulate our students (we may be able to financially support these innovations, including experiential components). Honors courses that can be designated with an ICC attribute are particularly helpful. To get a sense of the variety of courses we’ve offered, look in Homer in any semester, under “Ithaca College Honors.”  Note that we are mostly looking for interest for the 16-17 academic year and not next spring, except in the case of the third bullet. We are in need of one or two faculty to teach the International Scholarly Conversation course for spring 2016

• Three-credit Seminar: Typically discussion-based seminars on interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary topics not typically part of Ithaca College’s curriculum. Faculty receive course development funds over the summer, with the understanding that they’ll offer it at least three times.
• One-credit Course: We offer a few types of these. Faculty typically receive overload pay for these, but they can also be part of your regular load.
  • A “slow read,” a study of one seminal text broadly interpreted.
  • An experiential learning-based seminar focusing on a subject of your choice.
  • A QL designated course, providing students with the opportunity to complete the QL designation by taking three one-credit courses over three semesters—we typically offer one of these each semester.
  • A design lab course.
• The  three-credit Honors International Scholarly Conversation is a regular spring offering. It focuses on intellectual careers or on scholarly issues around the interests of major international visiting scholars at Ithaca College, many of them Fulbright scholars invited to campus specifically for this course. We typically offer two sections, which are well coordinated in terms of our selection of scholars invited to campus.
• Cultural Encounters with Ithaca College is also a regular spring offering, but could be offered in the fall. This course asks students to investigate the broad range of cultural experiences encountered at Ithaca College.
