Thursday, September 24
IRB 101 – noon – 1:00 pm
Center for Faculty Excellence – Gannett 316
Limited to first 20 registrants

Facilitated by Melinda Cozzolino, Chair of IRB and Associate Professor and Chair Graduate
Program, Occupational Therapy and MaryAnn Taylor, Coordinator, Sponsored Research.

After a brief introduction to IRB and the website, the focus will be on the practical steps of obtaining Ithaca College IRB approval, including:

  • Knowing whether or not you need to get IRB approval.
  • Knowing when you need to start the IRB process and how to go about it.
  • Protecting participants from coercion.


  • Best practices for recruiting.
  • Protecting the anonymity and confidentiality of participants.
  • Obtaining and completing the necessary documents, and getting approval.
  • Overview of Delegated Review Process.

  • 11:30 – noon – Lunch and conversation with researchers who have submitted grant proposals, their experiences, and Q & A.
  • Noon – 12:30 - Overview of Grants at IC – Wade Pickren/Warren Calderone/Susan Weatherby/MaryAnn Taylor
  • 12:30 – 1:30 pm – Interactive Session – Bring your ideas/concept paper and let’s talk.

Facilitated by Yvonne Rogalski, Chair, Whalen Symposium Steering Committee and Assistant Professor of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology with other members of the committee.

  • The session will introduce students and faculty to the Symposium, the application process, the abstract guidelines, and presentation options.

Please note that the online process for faculty sponsors to submit student presenter names will be open starting Tuesday, December 1, 2015, and will close on Monday, March 7, 2016.
