News from the Diversity Awareness Committee: You are invited to participate in monthly meetings!Contributed by Michelle Rios-Dominguez on 09/03/15
Our members and guest facilitators will lead discussions on topics of their choice. Every month, we will announce the meeting date, time, location and topic. Members will structure their meetings in a variety of different ways, they may choose to discuss an article or media story, educate on a particular topic, conduct a group activity or moderate a dialogue circle. The first of these meetings will be on Tuesday, September 8th from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Cayuga Lake Meeting Room. We will kick-off this year’s theme of Intersectionality by discussing the article “Intersectionality: A tool for gender and economic justice” By Alison Symington, a copy will be provided to you via email once your rsvp is received. If you would like to join us, please rsvp by emailing mriosdominguez@ithaca.edu. For your convenience, I have included the 2015-2016 meeting schedule below. We will continue to fund programming that aligns with our mission and coordinate campus-wide learning opportunities and celebrations; some examples of these events are Talking Circles on Race and Racism, MLK Week Celebration and the Rainbow Reception. The members of the Diversity Awareness Committee (DAC) would like to announce that we have made some changes to the format of our monthly meetings. The DAC monthly meetings will now be open for all community members and will be an opportunity to learn, discuss and share perspectives on a wide variety of diversity and inclusion topics.
