The Advocacy Center of Tompkins County and the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management are collaborating to bring the sexual assault prevention program “Bringing in the Bystander” to Ithaca College. Bringing in the Bystander is a sexual assault prevention program designed to give students the skills to recognize and intervene in potential situations before an assault or domestic violence can occur. The program also provides an overview of the definitions of sexual assault and affirmative consent. Our goal is to teach students how to intervene and diffuse situations and to inform students of the resources that are available to them on and off campus.

How can you help and get involved?

Become a Peer Educator

  • You will receive training on how to discuss these issues and co-facilitate programs on campus among your peers
  • The next training to be a Peer Educator will be Saturday, October 3rd, 10:30-12:30pm AND October 5th, 6:30-8:30pm

*Attending both of these trainings is required! If these dates do not work for you, please contact aszotka@theadvocacycenter.org and we will looking into scheduling you for our next peer training session.*

  • After completing the 4-hour training, you will be on a roster of presenters who will be notified when a program is available to present.  You can volunteer to present based on your availability and interest; therefore, your initial training is the only time obligation.
