Ithaca College will be conducting our second Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise for all staff, faculty and students on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to vaccinate against the seasonal flu. This event will be held in the lower level of the campus Fitness Center.

The POD exercise is an important part of the Ithaca College emergency preparedness plan, and tests our ability to deliver potentially life saving medication quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency or disaster incident that poses a threat to public health. Last year marked the first ever POD exercise in which Hammond Health Center staff, Environmental Health & Safety staff, and Community and Public Health students and faculty all worked in coordination with the Tompkins County Health Department to deliver more than 500 flu shots to faculty and staff in five hours. Nearly all of the participants last year were in and out of the clinic in less than 5 minutes!  So, take a few minutes, mark your calendars and walk through the Fitness Center between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on October 20th, and get your flu shot! Your participation will allow us to evaluate our current plan and staffing levels, and will help us to be better prepared to respond to the campus community in the event of an actual emergency.

Please note that the October 20th flu clinic will be the only planned staff and faculty flu clinic for the 2015-2016 academic year. IC students are welcome to walk through this flu clinic at a time convenient for them OR may receive the shot by appointment at the Hammond Health Center.

During this event, all supervisors are encouraged to support faculty and staff participation. Following is a schedule based on faculty and staff locations.  If at all possible come to the Fitness Center during your assigned time for the flu vaccine.  It the location time does not work for your schedule and you wish to participate, please come any time between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

  • 5 minutes to get vaccinated, or the increased risk of 2+ weeks to recover from the flu?
  • Flu outbreaks are preventable if everyone gets their shot.
  • More than 200,000 individuals are hospitalized annually from flu complications.
  • You can spread the flu before you even know you are sick.
  • The flu vaccine lasts for the entire flu season!
