We invite you to join us for the orchestral season's launch, with two performances early this month, featuring the Ithaca College Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. Both events are free and open to the public. More information on our concerts can be found online at ithaca.edu/music/ensembles/.

Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra

Mathew Rosenblum: Sharpshooter (2013) - world premiere
Mahler: Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Songs of a Wayfarer) 
   Marc Webster, bass
Tchaikovsky: Symphony No.5, E minor 

Opening the season with the world premiere of Rosenblum’s “Sharpshooter” - a brilliant new work featuring unusual microtonal elements, presented in a captivatingly rhythmic way. This concert will feature voice faculty Marc Webster singing “Songs of a Wayfarer,” Mahler’s first mature work that created a new genre — the orchestral song cycle. The concert will conclude with one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous and triumphant works, “Symphony in E minor.”

Stravinsky: Concerto in E-flat (Dumbarton Oaks)
   Calvin Wiersma, violin & David Quiggle, viola

ICCO begins the season by presenting two new string faculty, Calvin Wiersma (violin) and David Quiggle (viola) in Mozart’s masterwork for the two instruments. The concert will also feature Stravinsky’s brilliant and virtuosic neo-classic work “Dumbarton Oaks” with guest performers Susan Waterbury, Elizabeth Simkin, and Alexander Shuhan playing alongside IC students.
