Ithaca College

Last month Wendy Herbener Mehne, professor of flute in the School of Music, performed on three concerts at the National Flute Association convention in Washington, DC.

She performed Mario Davidovsky’s Synchronisms No.1 for flute and recorded sound on an Art and Technology concert.  Diane Birr, professor of piano in the School of Music, collaborated with her for two pieces on a concert of Treasures from the Library of Congress.  They performed Ernest Bloch’s Suite Modale and were joined by violist Melinda Daetsch for Leo Sowerby’s Trio.  Liisa Ambegaokar Grigorov, an Ithaca College alum (M.M. ’97), Mehne and Birr performed Grigorov’s transcription of Jean Sibelius’ Suite Mignonne on a Farewell Concert of Encores.  The National Flute Association, founded in 1972, is the largest flute organization in the world with 5,000 members from more than 50 countries.  Over 3000 flutists attended the four-day 2015 convention from the USA and abroad.
