Environmental Seminar/Sustainability Café Speaker Dawn Montanye will address the Socio-Economic Root Causes of Biodiversity Loss, from Local Land Ownership to Global Economic Development PolicyContributed by Carol Hansen on 10/08/15 Dawn Montanye has worked in the conservation field for over twenty years, linking ecological, social and economic systems. She worked with the World Wildlife Fund for many years managing poverty-environment projects in Asia, East Africa and Mexico; and then working with their Northern Great Plains (US) office to implement economic incentive programs on private lands. During this time, tens of thousands of acres were placed under long-term conservation management. Dawn has advised Federal and State wildlife and land management agencies on issues of economic development and environmental conservation, and international agencies and organizations on policies to recognize ecosystem health as a poverty reduction tool. She currently teaches Environmental Dimensions in Health Education at Ithaca College while working as an independent consultant to coordinate the work of twenty-five conservation groups on conserving American prairie habitat. Please join us Monday 12 October from 4 to 5 pm in CNS 112 for the seminar and sustainable snacks provided by Sodexo! Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Carol Hansen at chansen@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1822. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
