The School of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Shea Scruggs, who will serve as the new director of music admission and assistant dean for preparatory and summer programs beginning Monday, Nov. 2.

“We’re thrilled to have Shea join us this fall,” School of Music Dean Karl Paulnack said. “His considerable accomplishments in music, and his diverse and broad experiences in organizational management, marketing, statistical analysis, and entrepreneurship will be of great value to Ithaca College in a key leadership role such as this.”

Scruggs holds a bachelor of arts in English literature from Swarthmore College, a diploma of music in oboe from the Curtis Institute, and a master's degree in business administration from Cornell University. He has served as the assistant principal oboe of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, acting principal oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and principal oboe of the San Francisco Opera.

He is also the 2015 recipient of Cornell’s Hemmeter Award for Entrepreneurship and the founder of Dolce Reeds, a reed manufacturing company he developed in collaboration with engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and professional oboists.

“I am excited to join such a passionate and dynamic team,” Scruggs said in advance of his arrival, “and ‎look forward to joining the Ithaca College community."

Dean Paulnack would like to extend his thanks to all of you who participated in and gave feedback during the search, including special thanks to search team members Christy Agnese, Dan Isbell, Debbie Martin, Steve Mauk, David Pacun, and Derek Wallace for many hours of service on the search.
