Conceived and originally directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, “A Chorus Line” shares the stories of hopeful actors auditioning for the chance to be in the chorus of an upcoming Broadway production. Each character reveals their life, their distinct personality and the path that has led them to this moment.

The production’s director, associate professor of theatre arts Mary Corsaro, describes the authentic power of this groundbreaking musical.

“The show evolved from a series of taped sessions in which Broadway dancers were encouraged to talk about their lives and their careers. All of the songs, monologues and dialogues represent a compendium of these autobiographical stories.  The words ring true for us because the stories are real. They came from the hearts and souls of the dancers themselves.”

“A Chorus Line” will mark Corsaro’s final production at Ithaca College.

“This show seemed a fitting ‘swan song,’ as I will be retiring at the end of the school year after 31 years in the theatre arts department at Ithaca College. It is bittersweet for me, although everyone working on this show has made the project an absolute joy.”

Corsaro co-choreographed the production with theatre arts instructor Roy Lightner — who also serves as associate director — with fellow faculty member Joel Gelpe serving as music director.

The production team also includes scenic designer Jennifer Hiyama ’17, costume designer Emma Duncan ’16, lighting designer Scott Halstead ’16, sound designer Sam Schloegel ’16, assistant director Ross Silver ’16 and technical director Rachel Fitzgerald ’16.

The cast of “A Chorus Line” includes Jacob Shipley ’17, Kelsey Seaman ’18, Aidan Elsesser ’17, Denali Bennett ‘17, Drew Lausch ‘16, Maureen Edwards ‘18, Caitlin Ort ‘16, Connor Briggs ‘16, Kalyn Altmeyer ‘17, Caroline Gorland ‘17, Joshua Rivera ‘16, Adam James King ‘16, Emily Loewus ‘16, Kyra Leeds ‘16, Jordan Silver ‘16, Aaron Alcaraz ‘16, Alexa Cepeda ‘16, Miller Brackett ‘16, Charlie Crawford ‘17, Keara Byron ‘19, Aiden Ankli ’19, Alexis Garrett ’19, Woody Minshew ’18, Ryan Ballard ’19, Zachary Collins ’19, Peter Garza ’18, Sandrinne Stigson-Edstrom ’18  and William Thames ’18.
