Dr. Derrick Fox, Assistant Professor of Choral Music Education and Choral Conducting recently served as guest conductor and clinician at International School of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr. Fox worked with the three ISKL high school choirs and provided an after-school workshop for the elementary, middle, and high school music faculty at ISKL. He also worked with the ISKL Middle School Choirs individually and then worked with the choirs of the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Kung Man school, which joined the ISKL students for the Middle School Choral Exchange.

In October, he presented a workshop concerning best practices in assessment of students in the choral classroom for the National Association for Music Education National In-Service convention in Nashville. TN. Dr. Fox also contributed two articles for the NAfME educational advocacy blog “Music in a Minuet.” NAfME, among the world’s largest arts education organizations, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers.

His article “African American Practice in Shape Note Singing” will be one of two featured articles in the December issue of the Choral Journal. The Choral Journal has been the refereed, international journal of the American Choral Directors Association since 1959.
