The Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts will present Lucy Thurber’s Scarcity.Contributed by Susan Monagan on 11/10/15 This production is the department’s Senior Directing Project this semester and is directed by Phoebe Sullivan-Bing ‘16. Tickets for Scarcity are free but reservations are required. To reserve tickets, e-mail ictams1@gmail.com and indicate a first and second choice of performance date and time. If you are reserving for more than one person, ALL names of ticket holders must be included in your e.mail in order for a reservation to be completed. All tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be picked up at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the performance. Performance times are 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 14th, Sunday, November 15th, and Monday, November 16th. A 2:00 pm matinee will be offered on Sunday, November 15th. All performances will be held in the Earl McCarroll Theatre (Studio 2) in Dillingham Center on the Ithaca College campus. Scarcity takes place in a small town in Western Massachusetts and follows the Lawrence family as they struggle with poverty, boredom, and lost potential. Into this environment comes Ellen, a highly educated and wealthy young teacher. Her presence in the school of the Lawrence family’s children will tear the family apart. Scarcity is ultimately about loyalty to family and loyalty to self. Scarcity contains sexually explicit material and mature content, which some viewers may consider disturbing; viewer discretion is advised. The cast of Scarcity includes, Justin Albinder ‘18, Madeleine Stengel ‘18, Fiona Dolan ’17, Matt Ryan ’16, Daniel Hayward ’18, Fiorella Fernandez ’18, Hannah Anderson ’19, Adriana Medina ’19, Cecille Forsyth Rios ’19, and Mitchell Wajda ’19. Scarcity’s artistic staff includes assistant director Jackie Asbury ’18, stage manager John Fortunato ’16, sound designer Evan Hawkins ’16, lighting designer Kathleen Taylor ’16, set designer Katie McGeorge ’17, and costume designer Lia Maynard ‘17.
