The Ithaca College/Longview Partnership: Opportunities for Campus Community Involvement – Spring 2016Contributed by Christine Pogorzala on 01/27/16 Ithaca College has had a very successful programmatic partnership with Longview, a retirement community located on Danby Road, for the past 16 years. There are a number of opportunities for members of the Ithaca College Community to become involved at Longview.
Course Related Projects at Longview Faculty members can involve their students at Longview through course related, and/or service learning projects. Intergenerational discussion groups, tours of Longview, recreational and social activities planned by students, and student presentations or performances held at Longview are all possibilities. Chris Pogorzala will work with faculty and students to identify options and to facilitate scheduling, promotion of programs, and recruitment of Longview participants. The Ithaca College Faculty & Staff Lecture Series at Longview Another feature of the partnership between IC and Longview is an ongoing Faculty & Staff Lecture Series. Lectures are generally scheduled on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Longview auditorium. An appreciative audience is guaranteed! Volunteers are needed for the following months; the dates listed in parentheses are the open dates: Contact Chris Pogorzala, the IC/LV Coordinator, if you would like more information, or would be interested in giving a presentation at Longview this spring (607.274-1051 or pogorzal@ithaca.edu). The Longview/Ithaca College Shuttle On days that classes are in session there is a shuttle that provides transportation between Longview and the College in the morning, with stops at the Center for Health Sciences and Textor. This shuttle is available to members of both the Longview and Ithaca College Communities. The shuttle schedule for Spring 2016 is posted on the Gerontology Institute website at: https://www.ithaca.edu/aging/longview/. There are sometimes slight changes made to this schedule to accommodate for course related activities that require the transport of students to Longview. Any significant changes made to the existing schedule will be posted to Intercom. If the shuttle is canceled due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a notice will be posted on the Gerontology Institute web address listed above. Contact for all of the above: Christine Pogorzala, Ithaca College/Longview Coordinator
