Required fire evacuation drills will once again be held during the month of February.  These drills will be conducted in both the residential life buildings and the academic buildings.

As required by the New York State Fire Code, Ithaca College Environmental Health and Safety staff will begin conducting fire evacuation drills for all campus owned buildings starting the week of February 1.  The Fire Code is very specific as to when drills are held, as well as the number of drills required, and as such we must conduct these drills despite the colder weather. We will attempt to hold the drills during reasonable weather conditions, but this may not always be possible.

Please remember that when the fire alarm system is activated you are required to exit the building in a safe and expedient  manner, using the CLOSEST exit, and gather at your buildings established meeting place.

If you are aware of a specific date or time that may be a conflict, (exam, lab, etc.) please advise our office by email and we will make an attempt to avoid the time period.  Requests may be sent to Fire and Building Safety Coordinator Charlie Sherman at csherman1@ithaca.edu. Please note that normally scheduled classes are not a reason for conflict.

Working together we accomplish the goals of providing a safe environment for students, staff and faculty, and gain compliance with mandates imposed by the Fire Code.  If you have questions please do not hesitate to ask the EH&S staff conducting your drill.

Thank you.
