If you were curious about the flood of attorneys on campus this past weekend, you should know that they were participants or judges in the Second Annual Bomber Blitz Mock Trial Tournament. Colgate’s A team topped the field of eighteen teams from twelve colleges. The entire field in order of finishing were: (1) Colgate A; (2) Washington and Jefferson; (3) Geneseo A; (4)Swarthmore A; (5) Dickinson A; (6) Colgate B; (7) Amherst A; (8) Ithaca A; (9) Geneseo B; (10) Ithaca B; (11) Amherst B; (12) Saint John Fisher; (13) St. Bonaventure; (14) Dickinson B; (15) Bye-Buster; (16) Canisius; (17) Fredonia; (18) Kings. The following Ithaca College team members won individual awards for their efforts: Samantha Shaffer ‘17 – Top Attorney; Deirdre Iams-McGuire’19 – Top Witness; and Michael Ranalli ’17 – Top Witness. One of the challenges facing tournament organizers was getting enough judges to fill the seventy-two judging positions needed. The team owes a sincere debt of gratitude to the following current and retired faculty and staff who assisted others from the local community in judging the competition: Laurie Arliss, Sue Je Gage, Phil Garin, Thomas Girshin, Ozge Heck, Rachel Madsen, Veronica Santana-Frösén, Arno Selco, Thomas Shevory, Robert Sullivan, Scott Thompson, and Zenon Wasyliw. We also wish to thank the following members of the Ithaca College community who volunteered to serve as back up judges: Elijah Breton, Ann Byrne, Ashley Hall, Sean Themea, and Gladys Verona-Lacey. Finally, the tournament would not have been a success without the tireless efforts of Tournament Director Nicole Ang '17, who devoted a great deal of time and attention on behalf of the team and Ithaca College. Thanks Nicole! Next week the team moves on to Penn State for the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament.
