Posted on behalf of Tom Grape ’80, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and David Lissy ’87, vice chairman of the Board of Trustees. This message is the first of many that we will be providing to the campus community to keep you apprised of the presidential search process. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible at each step along the way to identifying the next president of Ithaca College. Very soon we will be launching a presidential search website which we will use for all matters related to that search, from these beginning steps through the bringing of finalists to campus. Prior to the start of the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting, we will be holding meetings with the Executive Committees of the Faculty Council and Staff Council, and the Executive Board of the Student Government Association. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss engagement of the campus community as we begin the search process. We plan to be very inclusive as we solicit input from all members of the campus community regarding the future of Ithaca College, and the desired qualities and competencies needed in the next president to lead us toward this future. We envision that opportunities for input will be provided during the month of March and into the beginning of April. We will also discuss during the meetings with these leadership groups the timeline for the naming of the search committee and the process to be used for identifying campus members of the committee. It is our hope the search committee will be named prior to beginning our campus dialogs, so that its members can join us and our search consultant during our listening sessions in March and April. We are in the process of beginning to solicit proposals from executive search firms to assist with the presidential search. As is customary at Ithaca College and elsewhere, it is advisable to use such a firm for senior administrative appointments. A sub-committee of the board will be assisting us in interviewing prospective consultants, with the intention of identifying the selected firm by the end of February. Senior Vice President and General Counsel Nancy Pringle, Secretary to the Board of Trustees, will be providing staff support to the presidential search. Please do not hesitate to direct questions to trustees@ithaca.edu, or to contact Nancy at npringle@ithaca.edu. We look forward to continuing our engagement with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Ithaca College as we commence this very important task. Tom Grape ’80 David Lissy ’87 |
