Hannah Hjerpe-Schroeder, an Ithaca College alumna (English '11), has accepted an offer of admission to the Ph.D. program in English Literature at Emory University.  She will begin her course of study in August of this year.

Emory's program is one of the most elite in the country, enrolling 7-9 students per year from an application pool of 400-1000. Hannah will be fully funded for the entirety of the PhD, including a stipend for living expenses. She plans to focus her doctorate on postcolonial and queer literatures. She joins English graduates from the last 8 years who have been admitted to PhD programs at Duke, Brown, Penn State, Harvard (Divinity School), and Indiana University.

Hannah wrote a senior honors thesis at Ithaca College on approaches to history in medieval literature, and took courses in theater and gender studies.  She went on to a master's degree in Irish Literature from Trinity College, Dublin, and over the last three years has worked for different advocacy groups for the homeless in south Florida and in California.

The Department of English sends its warmest congratulations to Hannah on this impressive achievement.
