Racism 101: "The Grounding of Race in America," Discussion and Q&A presented by Dr. Michael Taylor, Friday, Feb. 26th, 3-4pm.Contributed by Belisa Gonzalez on 02/26/16 The Center for the Study of Culture Race and Ethnicity presents a four-part 101 series designed to introduce participants to key concepts and conversations about race and racism. The first presentation, Racism 101: The Grounding of Race in America, will be held this Friday, February 26th from 3-4 PM in the Taughannock Falls room, Campus Center. In his presentation, Dr. Michael Taylor, will focus on the construction of "race" in the formation of the American nation. Using perspective from academic fields such as anthropology and cultural studies, this presentation will focus on the foundations of race and racism as it has been utilized and placed onto Native American peoples. This material will show how these actions and processes have then become used on other groups/peoples of color as America grew. Discussion and Q/A to follow.
