Deadline Approaching: Apply to Become a Peer Mentor Today!Contributed by Corinna Davies on 04/04/16 Are you a current or former Exploratory student? Do you want to give back to the Exploratory Program? Do you like working with people? If so, the Exploratory Program is currently hiring volunteers to work as Peer Mentors for the 2016 -- 2017 school year! PURPOSE OF POSITION: In keeping with our program’s guiding principles of empowerment, intentionality and independence, the Program actively educates and recruits Exploratory students to become leaders, workers and ambassadors in and for the program. We deliberately recruit promising students to gain experience in management, organization, marketing, publicity, social media, organizational communications, public speaking, small group facilitation, admissions recruitment, and student affairs, not just because it is the right thing to do, but because research supports these experiences as conduits to students’ best majors and right livelihoods. VOLUNTEER DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Attending Peer Mentor Orientation and Training and monthly meetings · Meeting with incoming first-year Exploratory students at summer orientation and helping them choose classes (if Peer Mentor will be in Ithaca for the summer) · Mentoring current Exploratory students by periodically emailing them, meeting with them in person, serving as a resource, and discussing interests and potential areas of study · Interacting with prospective students and parents, and answering any questions about the Exploratory Program/ Ithaca College in general at open house and accepted student events · Presenting at Exploring the Options classes and/ or workshops for students and giving a personal account of life as an Exploratory Student · Volunteering to help at events and programming, such as the Majors and Minors Fair and the Phonathon campaign · Providing feedback to Exploratory Program coordinators to further improve the program
The Exploratory Program Peer Mentor position is open to all current or former Exploratory students, regardless of year or major. |
