Stephen Mosher, professor in the Department of Sports Management and Media, was quoted in an El Paso Times article on the impact of the 1966 NCAA men's basketball championship, which saw a Texas Western team comprised of all black players defeat a Kentucky team made up entirely of white players.

According to Mosher, the victory played an important role in breaking the color barrier in college sports: “This victory made it clear to those schools that if they did not adapt, they would never win anything again when it came to football, basketball, track and field. And so they did... pretty quickly and with little uproar.”
