Diversity and Inclusion Webinar Series “A Matter of Excellence: Strategic Diversity Leadership in the Academy, An Evolutionary Discussion by Dr. Damon Williams,” on March 30thContributed by Michelle Rios-Dominguez on 03/24/16 About the Webinar: This video features the New England HERC Diversity Recruitment Conference 2011 KEYNOTE ADDRESS: "A Matter of Excellence: Strategic Diversity Leadership in the Academy, An Evolutionary Discussion" by Dr. Damon Williams, Associate Vice Chancellor, Vice Provost, Chief Officer for Diversity & Climate at University of Wisconsin-Madison. Speaking to the evolution of the strategic diversity leadership movement in the academy, focusing on its crystallization in the 21st century as a matter of institutional excellence and strategic imperative, this talk will examine a national survey of the institutional diversity capacity of more than 700 institutions, interviews with the nation's leading higher education diversity leaders, engagement with more than 200 institutions, and in-the-trenches experience leading diversity themed change at multiple institutions. Topics to include establishing diversity as a strategic imperative, actions steps for empowering your institutional diversity plan, the evolution of the modern day chief diversity officer role in higher education, the key role of faculty as diversity-themed change agents, the importance of strategic partnerships, and other topics of relevance. This session will have utility for senior leaders, faculty, staff, recruiters, corporate stakeholders, and others interested in issues of diversity, inclusion, and organizational change in the academy. This is part of a webinar series sponsored by the Office of the Associate Provost Diversity, Inclusion & Engagement and the Office of Human Resources.
