Four music composition students obtain recognition for their work

Four students of Dr. Jorge Grossmann have obtained recent recognition for their work. Jacob Kerzner, a junior, was recently declared the winner of the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble Call for Compositions. His new work, Possent Aurisque Iuvare, for SATB choir and solo cello, will be performed in May.  Jacob Morton-Black, also a junior, was the winner of the Burlington Chamber Orchestra's Young Composer's Competition. His piece, In Memoriam will be performed by the Burlington Chamber Orchestra led by the guest conductor Kayoko Dan, at the University of Vermont Recital Hall on May 14, 2016. Ian Wiese, a graduating senior, has been accepted into the master’s program in composition as a scholarship student at two prestigious schools: the Longy School of Music and the New England Conservatory. Junior Duncan Krummel has been selected to participate in VIPA, Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival, a summer program in Valencia, Spain. He will write a new solo piece for Berlin-based flautist Erik Drescher and have lessons and masterclasses with VIPA's faculty that include Rand Steiger (U. of California San Diego) and Stefano Gervasoni (Paris Conservatoire).

The composition program at Ithaca College offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music composition and comprises around twenty majors. Students benefit from an array of opportunities including the Husa Visiting Professor of Composition, residencies with visiting professional new music ensembles in addition to many performances of new music by faculty and students, including exciting concerts by the Ithaca College Contemporary Ensemble focusing on music by living composers.
