Dr. Matthew Holtmeier, Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Screen Studies, recently presented at the annual Society for Cinema and Media Studies (SCMS) conference in Atlanta. 

Presenting his paper titled “Space Becoming-Place: Hollywood North, Transnational Capital, and Bioregional Resistance,” Dr. Holtmeier discussed two winners of Best Canadian Feature at the Vancouver International Film Festival and explored the ways in which they interacted with local cultures, environments, and politics. This panel was selected by the SCMS Media and the Environment Scholarly Interest Group as having particular significance to the academic study of environmental media.
