Congratulations to the recipient of the 2016 Ithaca College Student Employee of the Year award…Alyssa Olivieri! Student Employees perform an invaluable service to our campus with enthusiasm, dedication and initiative. Along with our annual celebration of appreciation, we honored one student employee with an Ithaca College Student Employee of the Year award. Each department on campus was allowed to nominate one student. Ithaca College employs over 3,000 student employees each academic year, so selecting only one student nominee was a very difficult task. The student of the year award is based upon their outstanding qualities: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution. Congratulations to Alyssa Olivieri for winning Student Employee of the Year 2016! Alyssa is the training specialist/student manager in the Technology Learning Center in DIIS. She was nominated by Tony Tabone who works in the Teaching and Learning with Technology department. Tony describes Alyssa as “one of the most reliable people” he has ever worked with; he explains that when she brings issues to his attention that she is usually “one step ahead” and usually has a “plan or idea to move forward” which is an example of not only the quality of work she provides but also highlights her initiative to look ahead. Part of her role as a student employee is also being responsible for managing other student employees in her area and at times she is confronted with difficult conversations and situations. Tony describes how she approaches each situation “in a fair and professional manner” which in turn brings about a positive yet “commanding respect from her peers.” One specific initiative that Alyssa took on this year was that she volunteered to coordinate and support a number of events and training topics during the annual Educational Technology Day conference. Her willingness to contribute outside her role in the Technology Learning Center is further evidence of her dedication to the campus community. Congratulations Alyssa on a job well done! And the winner is... Comment from
