GCOM 29256 - Everybody Loves a Parade - April 15-17 (1 cr.)

The course explores the connections, processes, and best practices in building and staging a large scale entertainment event.  The Dallas Children’s Health Holiday Parade will be used as the primary example of this type of event.  The Parade combines planning for both the live audience (500,000 people on the streets) and a worldwide TV audience (177 countries). Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of live event production, TV Production/Distribution, and planning.

Students will learn to critically analyze a large scale yearly entertainment event and how it connects to their majors, courses taken/taking, and career aspirations. In addition, students will create a breakdown of the planning of a large event.

• Friday, April 15 – evening (4:00-6:00 and 7:00-9:00)
• Saturday April 16 – all day (10:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:30)
• Sunday April 17 – morning (10:00-12:30)
