Stephen Tropiano delivers paper on transgender youth at SCMSContributed by Stephen Tropiano on 04/11/16 Stephen Tropiano, director of the Ithaca College Los Angeles Program and associate professor of screen studies, delivered a paper at the 2016 Society for Cinema and Media Studies in Atlanta. Tropiano's paper, entitled "Jazz IS a Girl: Transgender Youth and the Media's Struggle with Gender Identity," examines the representation of transgender youth in recent American and British made-for-television documentaries and reality shows, including The Learning Channel's I AM JAZZ featuring thirteen-year-old trans activist, Jazz Jennings. |
