Human Sexuality is a social science perspective with the Themes: Identities and Mind, Body, Spirit.

Human Sexuality is now available as a 3-credit online course this winter. Students are able to take from a location of their choice. This course is a social science perspective with the Themes: Identities and Mind, Body, Spirit. Human Sexuality also counts toward the Women's and Gender Studies minor and Health minor.

Brief summary of course:

In this course, students will embark on a sex positive, genderful, and comprehensive experience that will expose participants to new ways of thinking about sex. We will explore practical and sensitive topics affecting college students through a harm reduction approach. Topics include perspectives on sexuality, sexual anatomy and arousal, sexual assault, gender and sexual identity, healthy relationships, paraphilias, pregnancy, STI's and contraception.  The overarching goal of this course is to develop awareness and skills needed to navigate and promote enjoyable and safe sexual experiences as they pertain to health and wellness.

Student experience:

"I was originally really nervous about taking a three credit, online class. It seemed like it was going to be a ton of work jam packed into a short amount of time. However, the work was completely manageable and I learned a lot. My favorite part of the class was being able to actually interact with people online. I didn't feel like I was just a name, aimlessly submitting work and receiving a grade. I was able to see people's faces and hear voices which made the class so much more personable. Also, the material that was covered in class involves anatomy, but a majority of the class time was spent discussing and debating the social issues surrounding sexuality and any stigmas associated with different lifestyle choices. We used a lot of case studies and documentaries as examples and was able to relate the information that we learned straight from the textbook. I really felt like this class brought everything full circle, despite the short period of time. The class was really informative and my favorite part was being able to do the work on my own time, from the comfort of my bed. Three credits in 10 days- definitely worth it."
