Men’s Health Week Tips

Contributed by Katie Sack on 06/15/16

National Men’s Health Week has been occurring for 45 years. The week always falls on the week leading up to Father’s Day. The goal of the week is to create awareness of preventable health problems that are common in men and to encourage men to visit their health providers and get treatment for pre-existing problems.

There are quite a few things you can do this week to help yourself or to help your family members and loved ones but the most important thing is to get a physical/check-up done. This is one of those things that keeps getting pushed off our weekly schedule because of things we think are more important. Many health conditions can be detected early with regular screenings.

This week also try and get more sleep. Adult males need between 7-9 hours of sleep a night. A number of chronic diseases and conditions are linked to lack of sleep.
