Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer Keith “Mac” McIntosh has been named vice president and chief information officer at the University of Richmond in Virginia. Reporting directly to the president, he will be responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic development of the university’s Information Services organization. His last day at IC will be July 22.

McIntosh joined the college in 2014 with over three decades of leadership experience in the field of information technology. He has helped transform the department—now known as Digital Instruction and Information Services (DIIS)—with a focus on partnering with the campus community to provide the innovative technology solutions and services necessary to meet the overall college mission.

Gerald Hector, vice president for finance and administration, says that he has been an invaluable asset to the institution over the past two years.

“Mac has brought a level of focus, tenacity, and alacrity to the information technology needs of the campus in that short span of time. Through his efforts leading the DIIS team, we have created a formal and board-approved five-year strategic plan for our technology needs, reorganized the department to position us for future growth and efficient delivery of service, and hired key individuals into strategic positions in information security, network services, and teaching and learning.”

Hector notes that McIntosh has modeled a management style that engaged the campus community in a number of conversations around technology and its importance to the future of the college.

“We were also very fortunate to have him as a part of our weekly divisional conversations around race, diversity, and inclusion,” said Hector. “He had a unique perspective that was important for us all to hear and process. A technology talent like Mac is highly sought after in higher education, and his growing influence within the industry makes this appointment at the University of Richmond an affirmation of his professionalism and effectiveness.”

McIntosh thanked Hector and President Tom Rochon for giving him the honor to serve the college as chief information officer, and for the confidence and support they demonstrated during his time at IC.

“I also want to thank the many colleagues I had the opportunity to interact with for your steadfast support and professionalism,” said McIntosh. “I have been blessed to have served our community alongside outstanding faculty, staff, and administration. I would be remiss if I didn’t say how proud I am of the IT team for embracing the changes we needed to make to improve our services and support for the college. We have accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time, with much more to do in the future. I have confidence you will continue to be successful.”

Plans for interim leadership of DIIS will be announced later this summer.
