Dr. Andrew Utterson (Communications) presents at ‘Film-Philosophy’ conference, University of EdinburghContributed by Stephen Tropiano on 07/11/16 Dr. Utterson, Assistant Professor of Screen Studies, recently presented at the annual Film-Philosophy conference, focused on the intersections of film studies and philosophy. In a paper entitled ‘Into the Universe of (Three-Dimensional) Technical Images: Jean-Luc Godard’s Flusserian 3D Cinema,’ he spoke on how the work of Czech-born philosopher and media theorist Vilém Flusser (especially his idea of ‘the technical image’) can be usefully employed to analyze how media technology determines aesthetics, as well as creative ways of circumventing this process––in this instance, in the films of French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard and his recent experiments with 3D cinema. |
