Thanks to a generous donation from An Evening to Remember Gala, the Gerontology Institute along with the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies piloted a Music & Memory program (www.musicandmemory.org) in the fall 2015 at Beechtree Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. This fall, again thanks to An Evening to Remember Gala, Cayuga Ridge Extended Care will begin a Music & Memory program. Music & Memory uses iPods and individualized playlists to bring music into the lives of people with dementia and other frailties. The film Alive Inside highlights the work of this organization. Students are needed to help develop playlists by interviewing family members, download music and create individualized playlists, meet with residents to listen (& sing!) to music, and record observations. Opportunities for student engagement are many and may align with coursework in many fields. If you are interested in exploring how you and/or your students may become involved, please contact Teri Reinemann, gerontology programs manager, at 274-1607 or treinemann@ithaca.edu Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Teri Reinemann at treinemann@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1607. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
