QuickTime to Be Removed From College Windows Computers - Revised DateContributed by Karen Compton on 08/19/16 DIIS posted the below Intercom article on Friday, 8/19. We have decided to postpone the removal of QuickTime from Windows computers for a few weeks. If you have any concerns about how the removal of this software might impact your work or teaching, please contact the Service Desk as soon as possible. The revised date to start the removal process is Wednesday, September 7th at 9:00 a.m. Original Intercom story: Apple’s QuickTime media player for Windows computers is no longer being updated by Apple. As a result, it has known security vulnerabilities that will never be fixed. DIIS will be implementing a process that will automatically remove QuickTime from all network-connected, College-owned Windows computers beginning on the morning of Tuesday, 8/23. QuickTime for Macintosh is still supported and being updated by Apple, and will not be affected by the removal process. Users really shouldn’t notice anything other than the QuickTime program will no longer be installed on the computer. Our College Windows computers have a program called VLC Player that can be used for playing Media that QuickTime would normally be used for. If you are using QuickTime for Windows as a media tool, please visit Digital Media Services and let our staff show you some of the exciting new media tools that we now have available for you. They are located in 103 Job Hall, Monday- Friday from 9am to 5pm. This Web article gives more details about the security problems with QuickTime for Windows. If you have a computer that is not regularly connected to the Ithaca College network (wired or wireless) you can (and should) manually remove the program through Programs and Features.
