The Ithaca College chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is pleased and proud to announce that its 2016 Fellowship nominee, Kaitlyn DeHority, has been selected as a Phi Kappa Phi Fellow and received an award of $5,000 in support of her graduate studies.

These awards are extremely competitive and to be selected as a Fellow is a distinct honor. Kaitlyn, who graduate in May 2016 with a B.S. in Chemistry and B.M.O. in Music (trumpet), is attending SUNY Upstate Medical University.

In Fall 2015 Kaitlyn was selected as the recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Shirley Hockett Presidential Scholar Award. She is the recipient of several other awards and honors such as American Chemical Society Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Russell Drago Chemistry Award, Fred Kastenbaum Pre-Health Award, Craig McHenry '30 Scholarship, Robert S. Boothroyd Sr. '24 Scholarship, Oracle Society and Phi Kappa Lambda music honor societies.

At Ithaca College and surrounding communities, her involvements have included VP of Chemistry club, TA in the Chemistry department, Principal Trumpet in both Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra, IC Relay for Life Bronze Level Fundraiser and Paricipant, Upstate Medical University Hospital, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, among others.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi currently awards fifty-one Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study. Each of the nearly 340 active Phi Kappa Phi chapters may select only one candidate from among their local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards.

Criteria used in the selection process include undergraduate academics, leadership and service both on the campus and in the community, graduate prospects, the student's personal statement, and faculty and other recommendations.

Ithaca College has been fortunate to have an excellent track record in having fellowships awarded to its nominee. Past Ithaca College winners of the PKP Fellowships are: Ann Stewart (Music and Mathematics, 1994), Pablo Cora (Music 1995), Teresa Lemery (Physical Therapy, 1997), Dheeraj Verma (Mathematics and Finance, 1999), Bridget Reynolds (Psychology, 2002), Rebecca Hammontree (Music, 2004), Dominic DiOrio (Music, 2006), Joseph Livingston (Chemistry, 2007), Kaitlyn Alcorn (Music, 2010), Kaylee Underkofler (Biochemistry, 2012), and Andrew Becker (Biochemistry, 2014).

We are delighted to add Kaitlyn DeHority to our chapter's list of recipients featured on the chapter's website and the PKP display case near Textor 102!
