Fall 2016 Updates from Digital Instruction and Information Services (DIIS)Contributed by David Weil on 08/22/16 As we start the fall semester we wanted to provide you with some updates from Digital Instruction and Information Services (DIIS). IT Leadership Team - There have been a number of changes to our senior IT leadership team over the past 4 months. David Weil was appointed at the end of July as Ithaca College’s Interim AVP and CIO following the departure of Keith “Mac” McIntosh who left the college to become Vice President and CIO at the University of Richmond. Bill Liddick has been appointed as the Interim Director of Engagement & Implementation (filling in for David Weil). In May, after the completion of national searches, we welcomed our two newest Directors, Casey Kendall (Director of Architecture and Infrastructure) and Dr. Mark Fink (Director of Teaching and Learning with Technology). Jason Youngers, our Director & Information Security Officer, rounds out the College’s senior IT leadership team. Extended Service Desk Hours – The Digital Instruction and Information Services (DIIS) Service Desk in Job Hall is now open during the semester on Sundays from Noon to 8 PM, Monday – Thursday from 8 AM to 8 PM, and Fridays from 8 AM to 5 PM. During these hours, staff at the service desk can assist with a variety of technology related services via email, walk-in or phone (607-274-1000). Network Infrastructure Updates – Work continues on modernizing the campus network. The first phase of this effort involved a major upgrade to the college’s wireless infrastructure, which resulted in improved wifi performance this past year. The second phase, which took place last spring and early summer upgraded our outdated core network equipment. The third phase is to address our connection to the internet by doubling the amount of internet bandwidth for the campus and replacing outdated internet interface devices with more modern technology. We expect this work to be completed by Fall Break. The fourth and final phase will be to replace the network interfaces in each administrative and academic building (known as the edge switches). This phase is underway, and should be completed by the end of the academic year. Other brief updates:
