The Writing Department's Handwerker Reading Series kicks off its fall season of faculty and student readings this Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:00pm in the Handwerker Gallery (Gannett Center).

Tuesday's reading will feature an exciting range of creative writing by the following faculty and student authors:

Katie Marks (Asst. Professor, Writing): "Katie Marks is known as a knitted angel, but her bones are of hell-fired steel. She has a blue electric guitar and a collection of coordinated nail polishes and is the single reason for many, many people's sanity." --Jaime Warburton, author of "Blurb for Katie Marks"

Jaime Warburton (Asst. Professor, Writing): "Jaime Warburton is a master of metaphor. She crushes her opponents at trivia. Her lipstick lasts all day. She's an all-around excellent teacher, writer, and human being." --Katie Marks, author of "Blurb for Jaime Warburton."

Erin Gunther is originally from Owego, NY and is a senior Writing major with a minor in English. She has worked as a Teaching Assistant for IC's Summer College for High School Students in the Writing College Application Essays course and is currently volunteering in IC's new Writing Major Mentorship Program. She enjoys writing creative nonfiction.

Jared Povanda is a senior majoring in Writing and minoring in English from Horseheads, NY. His favorite books tend to deal with the magical, but after discovering creative nonfiction, his literary world expanded tenfold. He edits nonfiction for Stillwater Magazine, and he would love to keep working with words after he graduates.

So please come out Tuesday and help us celebrate creative writing at IC. The reading will be followed by a short open mic event, and anyone who would like to share a short work of creative writing is welcome to do so.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jacob White at jrwhite@ithaca.edu or (904) 501-9860. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
