Addressing Challenges to Inclusion in Higher EducationContributed by Wade Pickren on 09/27/16 Monday, October 3, 2016, 10:00 am- 12:00 pm or 2:00-4:00 pm, Emerson Suite A Presented by Shane Lloyd, Assistant Director of Yale University's historic Afro-American Cultural Center and Dr. Maura Pavalow, who utilizes participatory methodologies to explore relationships between everyday and structural issues of discrimination in U.S. higher education. In an increasingly diverse workforce and classroom, we are all likely to say or do something that others might find offensive even if we did not think it was that big of a deal. This workshop explores how to move forward positively after these kinds of interactions and how we can work together to be in greater solidarity with our students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds. Through hands-on activities and discussion, we will consider different dynamics that inform how our interactions could be perceived in an upsetting way, particularly in the classroom. Register here for 10am. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Laurie Wasik at wasik@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3734. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
