The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management (OPSEM) is hosting a two-day workshop on campus titled Trauma Informed Sexual Assault Investigation Training. OPSEM secured this important training opportunity through a federal grant, and will be joined by numerous multi-disciplinary partners from both the college and the local and regional communities. In addition to law enforcement agencies, professionals will be attending who work in the fields of residential life, student conduct and judicial hearings, human resources, Title IX compliance, legal counsel, mental and public health, and sexual assault victim advocacy.

All OPSEM sworn staff (campus police officers and administrators) are attending the training. As a result, the college is partnering with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) to help provide coverage on campus on Thursday and Friday, September 15–16, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

During this time frame, TSCO deputies will be partnered with OPSEM Security Officers who have sound knowledge of the campus community and activities, as well as tools to assist with any calls for service that OPSEM may receive during this time. Because the training is occurring on campus, OPSEM administrators and supervisors will have direct communication with the deputies for immediate assistance, guidance, and consultation for any matters that may arise during this time. The team of TCSO deputies and OPSEM Security Officers will respond to all calls for service received, reported or observed (i.e., criminal and non-criminal activity) and consult or call for assistance as needed.  

The OPSEM would like to thank for your patience and understanding in our effort to provide uninterrupted service to our campus community during this short window of time, so that we are able to ensure all of our campus law enforcement officials receive this critical training.
