Steven Mauk, professor of saxophone in the School of Music, was one of the adjudicators this summer at the 8th International Saxophone Competition in Slovenia, held July 2-9. The competition drew applicants from China, Japan, Australia, Finland, Spain, Belgium, France, Slovenia and Croatia. There were two judges from France, one from Slovenia, one from Croatia, and Mauk from the USA. As part of the closing ceremony, Mauk premiered a work written for the five judges with the Slovenian Radio/TV Big Band. Included in the performance were Claude Delangle, saxophone professor at the Paris Conservatory, and US jazz artist James Carter. |
