Director Catherine Wiedner ’85 brings this 1970s Broadway classic up to speed for the 21st Century. “Company” is being musically directed by Christopher Zemliauskas ’97, and will feature choreography by National Broadway Tour veteran, Tucker Davis. Set in New York City, “Company” follows Robert (or Bobby) as he finds out what it means to be the last single person standing among his circle of friends. In a series of musical vignettes, Bobby learns and reflects upon marriage, commitment and his past and present relationships.

Under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Walter Chon, 16 student dramaturgs performed research about “Company” to support IC Theatre’s production.

“Prior to its musical adaptation, ‘Company’ was a series of 11 oneact plays and was not considered as a suitable frame for a popular musical,” said Chon. “Nevertheless, through the magic of collaboration, Stephen Sondheim, George Furth and Harold Prince transformed it into the musical we know today. The musical’s mature, multidimensional perspectives can be attributed to the innovative spirit of its creators as well as its origin as a theatrical piece. (Notes from the Dramaturgs)”

Ithaca College’s production design team includes scenic designer Jennifer Hiyama ’17, costume designer Lia Maynard ’17, lighting designer Eric Mitchell ’17 and sound designer Don Tindall.
