Following a national search, I am pleased to announce that Dr. David Harker, has been named Director of the Center for Civic Engagement.  As the current Director of the Collaborative for Community Engagement at Colorado College, Dr. Harker has broad professional experience providing and supporting a menu of curricular and co-curricular service learning and community based-learning initiatives.

Dr. Harker will provide leadership and direction in advancing the vision of Ithaca College’s Center for Civic Engagement by working in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to support service learning and implement community based learning opportunities for students.  David Harker holds a B.A. from the College of New Jersey, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Boston College.  His research focuses on ways in which individuals take action and engage with their communities around social issues.  Dr. Harker has authored several publications, and has numerous works in progress, and he brings both teaching and administrative experiences with him to Ithaca College. Dr. Harker will join the IC community after the Thanksgiving break on November 28th.   Please join me in welcoming Dr. Harker to Ithaca College.
